Full Job Description Public Health Fellow Salary:
$ 50,000 per annum Welfare Research, Inc. d/b/a WRI Solutions is seeking two (2) qualified candidates to fill the full-time positions at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for the Bureau of Division Management, Mental Hygiene -
Public Health Fellow Bureau & Program Description:
The Public Health Fellow will play a role in supporting the mission, vision, and goals of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). This role involves training and professional development opportunities that will prepare each fellow for a diverse range of responsibilities related to the public health sector. The Public Health Fellow will gain hands-on experience in public health policy, communication strategies, and program evaluation, contributing to significant public health initiatives aimed at reducing overdose rates and strengthening prevention efforts across the city.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Professional Development Manager, the Public Health Fellows will primarily be responsible for the following: Conduct online research for projects or gather information as needed. Read literature and information on relevant policy (lawmaking) topics to support ongoing projects. Help develop communications materials, including informational brochures, website content, and social media posts. Help write policy briefs, memos, and reports that summarize research findings and suggestions. Participate in internal and external meetings, taking notes and summarizing discussions for team members. Collaborate with team members to plan and implement targeted messaging strategies to effectively reach at-risk communities. Inputting information into databases or spreadsheets accurately and efficiently. Check and respond to emails, organize the inbox, and forward messages as needed. Work closely with colleagues on various projects, contributing ideas and assisting with project specific tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualification:
18 years of age or older High School Diploma or G.E.D Lived experience in the criminal justice system Legally able to work in the United States A resident of New York City Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong interest in public health, substance use prevention, and community engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse team and responsiveness to differing ethnic, racial, and cultural background, gender identities, sexual orientations and socioeconomic conditions.
  • Due to the full-time commitment expectation of this position, individuals currently engaged in other full-time roles or academic programs will not be eligible.

12 months (January 2027-January 2028)

Salary:
$50,000 annual salary with benefits package
