About Canopy Medical Clinic:

Canopy Medical Clinic is a physician-led rehabilitation medicine (PM&R) practice in Ben Lomond, serving the San Lorenzo Valley and greater Santa Cruz County. We treat musculoskeletal pain, tendinopathy, arthritis, sports and overuse injuries, and post-concussion conditions with unhurried, hands-on care: consultations, osteopathic manipulation, ultrasound-guided injections, PRP, and will likely add shockwave therapy eventually.

The Role:

We are hiring a Medical Assistant to work directly alongside the Medical Director as his right-hand person. This is a utility-player role in a small practice: part clinical MA, part front office, part operations. Some days you will be drawing blood and turning over rooms; other days you will be working from home answering the clinic phone and clearing the patient inbox. The position starts at 10-15 hours per week and is planned to grow to 20-30 hours per week as the practice grows. Hours are split between on-site clinic days in Ben Lomond and remote work from home. What You'll Do Clinical (on-site) Room patients, take vitals, and document in the EMR (athenahealth) Perform blood draws and assist with in-office procedures Set up, turn over, and restock treatment rooms between patients Maintain a clean, organized, and professional workspace Maintain clinical supplies, vendors, equipment, and inventory There is potential for future operation of shockwave therapy device under physician supervision, depending on interest, aptitude and availability. Patient communication (remote and on-site) Answer the clinic phone and return voicemails Respond to patient messages through the patient portal and email Schedule and confirm appointments, manage the calendar, and coordinate follow-ups Relay clinical questions to the physician and close the loop with patient Administrative and operations Keep the clinic clean, organized, and tidy: the physical space and the digital one (EMR, shared drives, scheduling, forms, and other online systems) Handle intake paperwork, records requests, referrals, and outbound faxes/correspondence Support the Medical Director with day-to-day tasks, projects, and whatever the practice needs that week Help build and refine systems, workflows, and operations that keep a small clinic running smoothly What We're Looking For Required Prior clinical experience as a medical assistant or in a comparable hands-on patient care role Competent and comfortable with phlebotomy (venipuncture) and vital signs Proficient with an EMR system; athenahealth experience is a plus Strong general computer skills: you are comfortable learning new software, managing files and folders, working in shared online systems, and troubleshooting on your own before asking Reliability and punctuality Self-starting and resourceful: you see what needs doing and do it Kind, warm, and professional with patients, on the phone and in person A genuine \"roll with it\" attitude: small practices change, and you adapt without drama Able to work independently from home with a quiet space, reliable internet, and good judgment about patient privacy Ability to reliably commute to Ben Lomond on clinic days Preferred Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) Current BLS/CPR certification Experience in orthopedics, sports medicine, physical medicine, pain management, or a similar specialty Interest in learning shockwave therapy and other in-office procedures Experience in a small or startup practice where you wore more than one hat
