Yes Does the externship site provide orientation to quality assessment, quality assurance and quality improvement? Yes Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: We understand this is an ongoing learning experience where you will have the oppertunity to practice and master necessary skills to suceed as a professional post graduation. However, we hope our applicants have adequate foundational skills in order to complete the following:
  • Otoscopy
  • Tympanometry
  • Standard comprehensive audiometric evaluation
  • Earmold impressions
  • Verifying hearing aid technology (any manufacturer) Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: Our goal is for our applicant to be proficent at the above skills in addition to: verification, troubleshooting and programming for appropriate amplification (all major manufacturers), hearing aid consultations, hearing aid fittings, AOI fittings, troubleshooting and programming, VNG/vHIT & Electrophysiologic testing (ABR, VEMP & ECochGs), initial testing for Cochlear Implant evaluations & candidacy as well as basic mapping/troubleshooting of devices Clinical opportunities that will be given to the extern: Rarely Hearing Screenings Regularly Pediatric evaluations: infant/toddler Regularly Pediatric evaluations: school-age Regularly Adult hearing evaluations Everyday Tympanometry Rarely Acoustic Reflexes Rarely Auditory processing evaluations Rarely Hearing Screenings Regularly Evoked potential assessments Rarely Intra-operative monitoring cases Regularly Otoacoustic emissions Rarely Industrial/hearing conservation Everyday Vestibular assessments Everyday Vestibular rehabilitation Everyday Hearing aids dispensed Everyday Hearing aid selection/fitting Everyday Audiologic rehabilitation (group or individualized) Regularly Cochlear implant evaluations Regularly Cochlear implant rehabilitation Everyday Tinnitus assessments Everyday Tinnitus rehabilitation Rarely Cerumen management Research opportunities?
