ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Must be able to contribute to a TEAM environment and work well with others.
• Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by a Pathologist.
• Prepares slides of specimens to enhance visibility under microscope with routine and specialized staining techniques.
• Examines slides under a microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements and to detect deviations and report abnormalities for further study.
• Perform routine quality control/maintenance on all required equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE

• One year certificate from Histology college or technical school; or
• three to six months related experience and/or training; or
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE / SKILLS

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures.
• Ability to enter data into a computer (LIS) system and print forms and/or information as needed.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, pathologist, employees, students and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

• Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Preferred, HT(ASCP) registered
• But can be a graduate from an accredited School of Histology.

Summary As a Histotechnologist, you will be essential in preparing and processing tissue specimens for diagnostic purposes, reporting to the laboratory manager.
