As a Histotechnician at MercyOne you will perform a variety of histology laboratory procedures used to produce tissue slides, which aids the pathologist in diagnosis and recommended treatment. Performs all steps in the preparation of tissue for diagnosis by a pathologist. Examine tissue structures and characteristics as appropriate for patient age to include neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults. Performs preventative maintenance and basic trouble shooting of instrumentation and equipment. Performs all steps in the recycling of reagents. Files blocks and slides. Assists with selection of new instruments or method evaluation, implementation, and training. Assists and supports quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives. Utilizes LEAN principles/productivity standards. Trains new employees. Maintains supply inventory. Operates laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related computer software. Rotates call.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday 6am-2:30pm, no holidays or weekends
General Requirements:
Completion of an approved histotechnician program OR at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry AND one year full-time acceptable experience in histopathology under the supervision of a pathologist. Certification as a Histotechnician HT (ASCP) is preferred.
