Job Summary:

The Mohs Histotechnician (Histotech) assists the Mohs surgeon by processing tissue for skin cancer surgery. This includes tissue inking, manipulation, embedding, cutting, and staining to produce quality slides for review by the surgeon. This position also includes reviewing results with patients, scheduling, coordinating care, and providing necessary information to providers and patients. The Histotech completes logs, orders supplies, transfers records, enters information, completes paperwork, and performs many other related duties as needed.

Histotech Job Duties:

MOHS:

Embed and cut tissue; create slides/coverslipping

MOHS:

Review results with patients, coordinate pre-op, explain procedure to patients

MOHS:

Schedule patients in EMA for Mohs procedure and excisions

• Fill out daily logs, order supplies, update logs, complete reports, create summaries and letters, obtain approvals, update patient PCP, and perform other related duties as needed
• Set up, clean up, and maintain cryostats
• Coordinate inter-office referrals for MIPS
• Create charts and maps; print path/pictures
• Send paperwork and other information when needed
• Assist with getting prior authorizations and VA approvals for MOHS/Excisions
• Coordinate outgoing referrals and send necessary documentation
• Complete and send orders to Castle if needed
• Assist pathology lab with questions, procedures, and changes if needed
• Oversee CLIA compliance and recertification along with KOH competencies for other providers

Requirements:

A lab-related Associate's degree or at least 60 college credit hours with This is a non-negotiable requirement as it is mandated by federal regulations. Applicants must be willing to provide a college transcript. An HT or HTL certification is NOT required. Previous Mohs histotechnician experience preferred, but not required. (As much as we can differentiate between Mohs and normal HT, the better. They are completely different worlds, expectations, and requirements.) If no Mohs histotechnican experience, previous medical assisting (MA) experience preferred. Spanish (bilingual) preferred, but not required.
