Histology Supervisor

Job Description

The Histology Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations, quality, regulatory compliance, and workflow of the gastrointestinal (GI) histology laboratory. This position oversees the processing of GI tissue specimens from receipt and accessioning through gross examination, processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, quality control, and preparation for pathologist interpretation. The Histology Supervisor ensures that laboratory practices are consistent with established policies and procedures and applicable CLIA requirements , while maintaining accurate documentation, quality assurance, safety standards, and efficient turnaround times. The Supervisor will perform and oversee grossing of GI specimens in accordance with established protocols and within the scope of applicable qualifications and laboratory policies. This position works closely with gastroenterologists, pathologists, physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff to ensure accurate specimen handling and timely delivery of high-quality pathology materials.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor degree or higher in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field, as appropriate for the responsibilities of the position. Appropriate histology laboratory experience and qualifications consistent with applicable CLIA personnel requirements. Previous experience in a histology laboratory, preferably with gastrointestinal or surgical pathology specimens. Demonstrated experience with tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and slide preparation. Demonstrated experience with specimen grossing or gross examination responsibilities appropriate to the position. Previous supervisory or lead laboratory experience preferred . Strong knowledge of laboratory quality control and quality assurance practices. Working knowledge of CLIA requirements and laboratory regulatory compliance. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Ability to work independently
Pay:
$25.91 - $31.20 per hour
