Job Overview We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) with a current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification to join our Day Program team. In this role, you will provide direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them build skills, make choices, participate in meaningful activities, and engage in their communities. As a DSP, you will provide hands-on support with activities of daily living, health and wellness needs, community participation, and implementation of individual support plans. You will help create a safe, respectful, and engaging environment while promoting independence, dignity, choice, and personal growth. This is a hands-on position that requires someone who is comfortable providing direct support, assisting with personal care when needed, and supporting individuals who may have complex needs or challenging behaviors. The position also involves community-based activities and travel between locations as needed. Reliable transportation is required, as the work location and community activities are not accessible by public transportation. Duties Provide person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a day program and community setting. Implement individual support plans as written and help individuals work toward their desired outcomes. Assist individuals with activities of daily living and self-help skills, including bathing, toileting, grooming, and other personal care needs as required. Support individuals with health and medical needs and assist with healthcare visits, medications, and therapy plans as directed. Administer medications in accordance with medical provider directions, DEC policies, and Pennsylvania requirements after completing required training. Maintain knowledge of the health and medical needs of assigned individuals and promptly report health concerns to the appropriate supervisor. Teach and reinforce skills that promote independence and participation in daily activities. Provide opportunities for individuals to make choices and participate in meaningful and valued activities. Support individuals in following person-centered schedules and participating in activities of their choosing. Facilitate community involvement, social interactions, relationships, and connections. Provide support and transportation for community activities as needed. Support individuals with challenging behaviors using appropriate strategies and agency procedures. Maintain a safe, healthy, peaceful, and comfortable environment. Respect and protect the rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality of individuals supported. Maintain agency and individual property appropriately. Maintain accurate and timely documentation and records. Follow all agency policies and procedures, including HIPAA and applicable state and federal requirements. Report concerns involving abuse, neglect, mistreatment, or exploitation immediately as required. Communicate professionally with individuals supported, families, coworkers, supervisors, and other professionals. Participate in required meetings, training, and certification programs. Mentor and support new staff as assigned. Provide emergency coverage when requested by management. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required. High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred. Experience providing direct care, personal care, healthcare support, or services to individuals with disabilities is a plus. Ability and willingness to assist individuals with activities of daily living, including bathing, toileting, and other personal care needs. Ability and willingness to support individuals who may exhibit challenging behaviors. Basic written, verbal, and computer skills necessary for communication and documentation. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work respectfully with individuals, families, coworkers, and supervisors. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Reliable transportation is required due to the location of the position and the need to travel for community-based activities. Public transportation is not available to the work location. Valid driver's license for at least three years with an acceptable driving history. Proof of automobile insurance if personal vehicle use is required. Ability to pass required drug screening, physical examination, criminal history check, and personal background checks. Ability to complete all required DEC training and certifications.
