Summary:
The main function of an accessioner is to process laboratory samples. They work with other laboratory employees to catalog patient specimens, such as blood, urine, or tissue, for analysis. The role primarily involves handling blood specimens. Lab professionals use the samples received to support diagnosis and treatment.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Receive and triage all specimens for clinical testing. Process and organize patient specimens accurately and efficiently. Manage clinical information within the LIMS database. Perform data entry and maintain accurate specimen and patient information. Conduct internal audits of clinical charts. Collaborate with various departments to ensure testing accuracy. Identify and address specimen or documentation discrepancies as needed. Maintain accuracy while meeting established production and turnaround-time requirements. Follow laboratory procedures, quality standards, and applicable safety protocols. Work effectively both independently and as part of a laboratory team.
Qualifications:
0-2 years of work experience. High School Diploma/GED required. AS or BS degree in Biological Sciences preferred. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to meet deadlines and work in a production-oriented environment. Ability to work independently and effectively within a team. Comfortable handling biological/laboratory specimens.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
Prior laboratory experience preferred. Data entry experience preferred. Prior production-based experience preferred, but not required. Experience working with LIMS or laboratory information systems is a plus. Experience handling or processing clinical specimens is a plus.
Additional Requirements:
Color vision is required. No flu or COVID vaccination required. Negative THC screen is not required. No required certifications. No required testing. No travel required.
