Metals Testing Laboratory Technician

Job Description

Metals Testing Laboratory Technician United Stars is seeking a Metals Testing Laboratory Technician to support our engineered metal products operations in West Bend, WI. In this role, you will prepare and test metal samples for tensile strength, hardness, microstructure, and dimensional accuracy using lab instruments and gauges. You'll follow standardized procedures, accurately record and analyze data, and communicate results to production and quality teams. Working in a safety‑first, on‑site lab environment, you'll help ensure components meet strict customer and industry specifications while developing specialized skills in metals and manufacturing. Prepare and test metal samples for tensile, hardness, and other mechanical properties. Operate and maintain laboratory instruments, gauges, and measurement tools. Document test methods, measurements, and results accurately in lab records and systems. Interpret results against specifications and communicate findings to production and quality teams. Support root-cause investigations for nonconforming materials or components. Follow strict safety, PPE, and housekeeping standards in the lab and plant areas. Calibrate and verify testing equipment according to procedures. Assist in developing and updating test procedures and work instructions. Collaborate with engineers and technicians on special testing projects. Contribute to continuous improvement and quality initiatives across the lab and manufacturing areas. Metallurgical testing Tensile and hardness testing Microscopy and sample preparation Non-destructive testing (NDT) basics Use of calipers, micrometers, gauges Lab data recording and reporting Quality control and inspection Reading technical drawings/specs Safety protocols and PPE use Basic SPC and measurement analysis Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k ASNT Level I or II in nondestructive testing (preferred) ISO 17025 or quality lab experience (preferred) OSHA safety training (preferred)
