This role works closely with Principal Investigators, Sub-Investigators, Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs), and nursing staff to ensure participant safety, data integrity, and adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) throughout each study visit and inpatient stay. Reports To Nurse Manager Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Support Room and prepare study participants for scheduled procedures, assessments, and physician/PI visits Obtain and record vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, SpO2, weight, height) Perform 12-lead ECGs and ensure proper labeling and filing per protocol Collect and process biological specimens (blood draws/phlebotomy, urine, other samples) per protocol-specific requirements Prepare, label, and manage specimen shipping/storage in accordance with lab manuals and chain-of-custody procedures Assist with administration of investigational products (IP), routine, and PRN medications Monitor participants for adverse events (AEs) and report observations promptly to the CRC/nursing/medical staff Support participant comfort and safety throughout extended inpatient confinement periods Clinical Trial Administration Assist CRCs with source documentation Maintain organized, audit-ready participant charts Support inventory management of clinical and IP supplies, including temperature logs and equipment calibration checks Compliance & Quality Follow study protocols, ICH-GCP guidelines, and institutional/site SOPs at all times Maintain participant confidentiality and HIPAA compliance Complete required protocol-specific and regulatory training (GCP, CITI, site-specific SOPs) prior to performing study tasks Report protocol deviations, safety concerns, or data discrepancies immediately Unit & Team Support Collaborate with nursing, CRCs, dietary, and PI staff to coordinate inpatient participant schedules Assist with unit stocking, equipment maintenance, and general clinic readiness Provide coverage across day/evening/overnight shifts as required by inpatient study schedules (may include weekends/holidays) Required Qualifications Current LVN License Current CPR/BLS certification Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in clinical research unit, or an inpatient trial setting Familiarity with GCP/ICH guidelines and FDA regulations governing clinical trials Experience performing ECGs and specimen processing per protocol requirements Skills & Competencies Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation Ability to follow complex, protocol-driven procedures precisely Effective communication with participants, investigators, and multidisciplinary staff Comfort working flexible/rotating shifts, including overnight inpatient coverage Basic proficiency with computers, EDC platforms, and standard office software Ability to remain calm and responsive in time-sensitive or emergent situations Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the unit for extended periods Ability to lift/assist patients and equipment as needed (typically up to 25-50 lbs) Manual dexterity for phlebotomy, specimen handling, and equipment use Willingness to work overnight, weekend, or extended shifts tied to study confinement schedules Work Environment This role is based in an inpatient clinical research unit (CRU), which may involve overnight participant stays, controlled dosing schedules, and close coordination with medical and research staff in a regulated healthcare environment.
