Position Opening 1:1 Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Position Summary
The 1:1 Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), under the clinical supervision and direction of the School Nurse/Nurse Leader, provides individualized nursing and healthcare support to an assigned student with medical needs during the school day and school-sponsored activities.
The LPN works collaboratively with school nursing staff, the student's family, healthcare providers, teachers, and other school personnel to support the student's health, safety, well-being, and access to educational programming.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to the assigned student in accordance with physician orders, the student's Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP), Emergency Action Plan, IEP and/or 504 Plan, as applicable.
Monitor the student's health status and provide appropriate care for acute and chronic medical conditions.
Administer medications, treatments, and other nursing services in accordance with physician orders, District procedures, and applicable nursing standards.
Perform specialized medical procedures required by the student's individual medical needs and within the scope of LPN practice.
Monitor and assist with medical equipment used by the student and promptly report equipment concerns to the School Nurse/Nurse Leader.
Respond appropriately to medical emergencies involving the assigned student and provide first aid or emergency care as necessary.
Assist the student with mobility, feeding, toileting, positioning, and other health-related or personal care needs when required.
Accompany the student during transportation to and from school when assigned or medically necessary.
Support the student throughout the school day, including classroom activities, transitions, meals, recess, field trips, and other educational or school-sponsored activities, as appropriate.
Work collaboratively with teachers and other school personnel to support the student's safe participation in and access to educational activities.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential nursing records and documentation related to the student's health and medical care by use of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) software. Communicate and collaborate with the School Nurse/Nurse Leader, parents/guardians, healthcare providers, special education staff, teachers, and other appropriate personnel regarding the student's health and safety needs.
Follow all applicable District policies and procedures and local, state, and federal requirements related to school health services and student confidentiality.
When the assigned student is absent, perform other nursing-related duties as directed by the School Nurse/Nurse Leader.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the School Nurse/Nurse Leader and/or appropriate District administrator.
Qualifications
Current Massachusetts Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
Current CPR certification.
Ability to provide nursing care and perform medical procedures required by the assigned student within the scope of LPN practice.
Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
Ability to maintain accurate and confidential health records.
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, healthcare providers, and school personnel.
Ability to work effectively under the clinical supervision and direction of the School Nurse/Nurse Leader.
Terms of Employment
Schedule:
School year position. Work schedule and other terms and conditions of employment shall be as set forth in the individual Employment Agreement with the Winchendon School Committee.
Compensation Starting at $45,675 with final salary placement based on degree status and applicable qualifications
