KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Process referrals, prior authorizations, and insurance approvals as directed by providers. Manage medical records tasks, including scanning documents, processing downloads, distributing incoming records, and maintaining accurate patient charts. Coordinate Medicaid travel arrangements and provide backup support for medical records and Medicaid travel staff. Support continuity of care by following up with patients regarding treatment plans and provider instructions. Assist with clinic flow as needed, including rooming patients, cleaning rooms between visits, and performing other assigned duties.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required; 2-3 years of experience working with computerized patient records preferred. Strong keyboarding skills with the ability to maintain productivity during prolonged desk work. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records and strict confidentiality. Professional demeanor with the ability to communicate courteously and respectfully with patients, providers, and staff. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing demands, and respond to provider requests requiring immediate attention. Familiarity with referrals, authorizations, lab results, diagnostics, and medical documentation workflows.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods, walk, stoop, and perform occasional lifting; moderate mobility and manual dexterity are required.
ENVIRONMENT
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. This position is based in a specialty clinic setting that is generally clean, well-maintained, and patient-focused, with work primarily performed indoors and involving frequent interaction with patients and clinical staff. Job hazards may include prolonged screen time, repetitive motion, exposure to confidential patient information, and the psychological demands of supporting patients and providers in a fast-paced clinical environment.
