We have seven offices in Wayne, Paramus, Clifton, Totowa, Morristown, West Orange, and Montclair, and we serve as team physicians for Seton Hall, William Paterson, and Montclair State universities. We added providers and locations this year, and we are growing our clinical team to match. Position Summary Academy Orthopedics is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our clinical team. Our MAs keep clinic moving. You will room patients, take histories, assist our physicians and PAs during exams and in-office procedures, help with splints, casts, and braces, and keep documentation in eClinicalWorks (ECW) complete and accurate.
This is a float position:
you will be assigned to the office and provider where coverage is needed, so you will get to know every site and work with most of our providers. Every provider runs clinic a little differently, and part of this job is learning each one's routine. Prior medical assistant experience is preferred but not required; structured training on our clinical workflows, ECW, and the procedures we perform in the office is provided. In lieu of experience, candidates should show that they are dependable, comfortable on their feet in a busy clinic, and calm and kind with patients who are in pain. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their rooms and their provider's day, and who wants a long-term position with a growing practice. Some of our clinical coordinators started here as medical assistants.
Offices:
Wayne (main office, 504 Valley Road, Suite 201), Paramus, Clifton, Totowa, Morristown, West Orange, and Montclair, NJ Work arrangement: On-site, five days per week, at the office where coverage is needed. This position is not remote or hybrid. Reliable transportation is required.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Shifts fall between 8:00 AM and 5:15 PM and vary by office and provider clinic schedule. Paid lunch break.
Compensation:
$22 to $26 per hour, commensurate with experience Responsibilities Room patients, take history, and confirm the reason for the visit so the provider walks in ready Assist providers during exams and in-office procedures, including injection setup, suture and staple removal, and dressing changes Apply and remove splints and casts, and fit braces, boots, slings, and other DME as directed by the provider Document intake, procedures, orders, and patient instructions in ECW accurately and on time Coordinate with the clinical coordinator and front desk so imaging, prescriptions, referrals, and follow-up visits are ordered and communicated Review post-visit instructions with patients and answer basic questions; route clinical questions to the provider Prepare and stock exam rooms and procedure trays, and keep clinical supplies and DME inventory in order at your assigned office Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent Dependability and punctuality, with the ability to work on-site five days per week and travel between our offices as assigned Comfortable on your feet through a full clinic day and able to help patients on and off exam tables Calm, professional, and kind with patients, including patients in pain Strong attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy in documentation Sound judgment in knowing when to ask and when to escalate Ability to learn new software (ECW training provided) Commitment to confidentiality in handling patient information (HIPAA training provided) Preferred Prior medical assistant, orthopedic, physical therapy, athletic training, or other hands-on patient care experience Completion of a medical assistant program, or CMA, RMA, or CCMA certification Experience with splinting, casting, or DME fitting Familiarity with eClinicalWorks (ECW) or another EMR BLS or CPR certification Multilingual abilities Compensation and Benefits Hourly rate of $22 to $26 Three weeks of paid time off, plus holiday pay for recognized company holidays Medical and dental benefits beginning the first of the month after hire, and a health savings account 401(k) plan with employer contribution Paid lunch break Structured training and opportunity for advancement as the practice grows How to Apply Qualified candidates should submit a resume and a brief statement of interest, including how this position fits their longer-term goals, to .
