Medical Assistant

Job Description

River Family Health Center is seeking a Medical Assistant with outpatient experience to work in our outpatient clinic with our team of providers and nurses. Job Purpose Assists in the provision of care to the patients who come to River Family Health Center for appointments. Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills with patients, family members, significant others and other members of the health care team. Responsible for clinical duties under the supervision of the Nurse Manager of Outpatient Services. Qualifications High school diploma or the equivalent. Working knowledge of EMR systems, preferably ECW and/or Meditech One year outpatient clinic experience as Medical Assistant (or equivalent) required, at least 2 preferred. Ability to organize and carry out new programs and procedures.
Working knowledge of Microsoft platforms:
Word, Excel, Power Point. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Working Conditions Environmentally controlled medical office environment. Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations. Work hours subject to office needs to ensure coverage during all hours of operation. May wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves or a mask. Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public. Physical requirements Frequent sitting, standing, walking, grasping, carrying and speaking. Occasional reaching, bending and stooping. Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds, with assistance if needed. May need to lift or turn patients who are disabled, with assistance if needed. Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine and phone. It is the employee's responsibility to know the requirements for certification, limited permit and licensure for their individual profession. It is also the responsibility of the employee to notify the employer of the status of any certification or licensure issue or potential issue. The employee will comply with all of the requirements outlined by the New York State Office of professions for the particular profession.
