Job Title :
Medical Assistant General Statement of Duties :
Performs a variety of patient care activities to assist physicians and nursing personnel and patient service representatives.

Site Lead Typical Physical Demands :
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids.
Typical Working Conditions :
Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

As an employee of Family Health Network of Central New York, Inc. you may be assigned to any of our locations - Cortland Family Practice, Homer Family Practice, Marathon Health Center, Cincinnatus Health Center, Moravia Health and Dental Center, Administration, School Health Programs at Marathon, Cincinnatus, or DeRuyter Schools, or our mobile medical unit. License :
Valid New York Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited program or appropriate training preferred. CPR Certification. New York State Infection Control course. Alternative to

General Summary of Duties :
Escorts patients to exam room and assists in determining medical problem. Takes vital sign and assist patients in patient flow through the clinic. Prepares exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing. Delivers test and obtain results. Labels and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests. Delivers test and obtain results. Ensure that lab reports, X-rays and other information is in patient records before the chart is given to the provider. Assists providers and nurses with diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed. Issues out-patient materials. Assists in application and patient instruction. Schedules patients for testing procedures and logs appropriately. Takes telephone messages as directed; screens calls for referral to nurse of provider. Perform blood draws (phlebotomy) involving patient preparation, vein selection, and safe execution of venipuncture. Does required controls on in-house laboratory tests in accordance with CLIA. Insures proper maintenance and cleanliness of all equipment. Maintains logs for infectious diseases, referrals, PAP's, dog bites, etc. Gathers information for State and Federal reports. Reports faulty equipment to supervisor and fills out equipment action log for repair action. Attends required meetings, and in-services, and participates in committees as requested. This position requires compliance with Health Center's written standards, including its Standards of Conduct and policies and procedures pertaining to all operational aspects, furthermore this position is required to report any suspected instances of noncompliance. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. This position will function as a contributing member of the emergency preparedness team under the incident command system. Performs related work as required. This position will function as a contributing member of the FHN Dramatic Performance Improvement Model of Care to ensure that FHN's Team-Based Care is the most sustainable, efficient method for providing high-quality, satisfying, and equitable health care to our patient population.
Pay:
$18.00 - $24.00 per hour
