Medical Technician Division Middle/Upper Health Office Full or Part-Time Full-time Start Date ASAP Duration Temporary Hours 35 hours/week The Medical Technician at the Middle/Upper Health Office is a temporary full-time position scheduled to begin as soon as possible and is expected to end on or around December 31, 2026 with potential for extension. The Nurse's Offices are responsible for providing registered nursing services including triage, assessment, treatment, and education to students with acute medical needs or long term care plans.
Duties and Responsibilities The Medical Technician:
will be responsible for general administrative operations of the Nurse's Office including answering phone calls and emails, issuing student late passes and elevator passes, maintaining, filing and archiving paperwork, and communicating with attendance coordinators and athletic trainer; o will maintain bulletin boards in the Nurse's Office; o will restock and order medical and office supplies; o will submit facilities work orders and visitor request forms to campus operations, as needed; o will assist the Nurses in preparing a substitute nurse binder; o will escort students from the Nurse's Office to their parent, guardian, or caregiver; • will provide basic treatment and/or monitoring student-patients in the nurse's office and adjacent isolation rooms under the direction of a registered nurse, including, but not limited to: o measurement and recording of vital signs including blood pressure, heart and respiratory rate, pulse oximetry, and temperature; o administering glucagon, naloxone, or epinephrine auto-injector as required; o assisting supervised students to take their own oral, topical and inhalant medication according to NYSED's Medication Management Guidelines for Schools; o application of small dressings or splints per health services protocols; o patient transport, carrying, and positioning; • will be responsible for data entry of student information, including immunization and medical forms, into the health records system; o will run compliance reports related to health records management, and may contact parents in the event of an outstanding requirement; • will maintain and distribute mobile first aid kits for school trips; • will assist in maintaining spaces within the Nurse's Office through proper infection control procedures; • may be required to fulfill other duties, as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or New York State Emergency Medical Technician - Basic certification;
Valid AHA or equivalent CPR/AED certification;
Proficiency with the Google environment, including GMail, GDocs, GSheets;
Experience with electronic health records management systems;
Exceptional communication and customer service skills;
Experience working with children;
Must have the ability to work independently and as member of a team;
Respect and appreciation for diversity in all of its forms;
Ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback;
Capacity to be compliance with school policies, state regulations and educational standards;
Ability to maintain confidentiality of specific information pertaining to students;
