Job Description

Legal Entity Orrville Hospital Foundation Position Summary The primary purpose of the position is to provide clinical support to the Provider (Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician's Assistant), provide patient and family education as directed by the Provider, and work cooperatively with the remainder of the office structure. Department Summary This is a Primary Care office providing Primary Care services to patients of all age ranges located in Carrollton, Ohio. These services include wellness exams, sports physicals, immunizations, and simple office procedures. Qualifications Graduate of approved Medical Assisting Program Proof of current certification/registration Must have current up to date CPR training Must adhere to office policy of yearly OSHA and HIPAA training Must adhere to office policy for attendance 1 - 3 years of experience or Experience preferred Department Qualifications Skills Comfortable speaking to patients and patients' family members Detail oriented Communicate effectively Adaptability to change work environment or needs of the department Ability to multitask Ability to prioritize tasks Department Skills Responsibilities & Expectations Ensure accurate and complete documentation in accordance with policies and procedures. Checks Provider schedules frequently for any changes or updates. Inspect patients' medical record prior to visit to ensure completeness as well as making sure the result of testing is available. Pre visit planning/chart prep to be completed in between rooming patients. Rooms patients in a timely manner, making sure to utilize two patient identifiers when doing so. Obtains vital signs, height, weight, and current accurate list of medications as well as all the pertinent information needed for the Provider to assess the patient. Performs EKGs in accordance with policies and procedures. Refills medications in accordance with policies and procedures. Schedules patients for testing as ordered by the Provider. This may include precertification, prior authorization, and communicating with the patient and/or the referral department. Documents completely, thoroughly, and legally in the patient's chart. Accurately completes medical forms. Educates patients under the direction of the Provider. Returns phone calls to patients by the end of each business day. Answers patient messages, from patients by the end of each business day. Answers telephone calls and takes messages from the Clinical and Refill Line between rooming patients. Notifies Provider immediately of abnormal lab results. Restocks and cleans exams rooms after utilization in accordance with polices and protocols. Utilizes Electronic Health Record to accurate document and inform Provider of patient interactions. Schedules and/or reschedule patient appointments. Any other duties as assigned by the Practice Manager. Department Responsibilities & Expectations Working Conditions Typical shifts are 8 to 10 hours per day. Shifts may be variable due to the volume of department. Rotation as needed. Work weekends as assigned. Rotation is every 6th weekend (four-hour shift.) Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate floor coverage Cross training in all areas in the department is required. Staff may be assigned to different locations within the foundation. May require paid overtime before or after normal working hours. Subject to frequent interruptions during performance of duties. Expected to adhere to office policies and procedures. May be exposed to blood and bodily fluid. Hazardous Exposure Category Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
