We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Hospice Medical Director to join our interdisciplinary team and provide medical leadership and clinical oversight. Position Summary The Hospice Medical Director is responsible for providing medical oversight and guidance for hospice patients, collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary team, and ensuring that patients receive appropriate, high-quality hospice services consistent with their goals of care. The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable and compassionate physician who understands the hospice philosophy and is committed to supporting patients and families during the end-of-life journey. Key Responsibilities Provide medical direction and oversight for hospice patients. Collaborate with the hospice interdisciplinary team, including nurses, social workers, chaplains, aides, and other healthcare professionals. Participate in the development, review, and approval of individualized hospice plans of care. Evaluate and certify patient eligibility for hospice services in accordance with applicable regulations. Review and provide appropriate physician orders for hospice services, medications, treatments, and changes in the plan of care. Participate in hospice interdisciplinary group (IDG) meetings and provide clinical guidance as needed. Assist with complex patient and symptom-management issues. Communicate effectively with attending physicians, patients, families, and members of the hospice team. Provide guidance regarding pain and symptom management, disease progression, and end-of-life care. Assist with determining continued hospice eligibility and recertification when required. Ensure medical care is consistent with the patient's goals, wishes, and hospice plan of care. Support the hospice team in maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements. Provide education and clinical guidance to hospice staff as appropriate. Participate in quality improvement and performance activities related to patient care. Promote a culture of compassionate, respectful, and patient-centered care. Qualifications Current, unrestricted medical license in the state of California. Board certification or eligibility in a relevant medical specialty preferred. Experience in hospice, palliative care, geriatrics, internal medicine, family medicine, or a related field preferred. Knowledge of hospice philosophy, Medicare hospice regulations, and end-of-life care preferred. Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Compassionate approach to patients and families facing end-of-life care. Current DEA registration, if required for the position.
