POSITION SUMMARY
The Public Health Medical Director serves as the medical advisor to Moffat County Public Health. Primary responsibilities include reviewing and signing vaccine orders, providing medical consultation to Public Health staff on an as-needed basis, and offering clinical guidance related to immunization and Public Health activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.
  • Current professional liability (medical malpractice) insurance.
  • Ability to provide medical consultation and oversight in a public health setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, preventative medicine, or public health.
  • Previous experience serving as a Public Health Director or Medical Advisor.
  • Experience with immunization programs and communicable disease prevention.
  • Experience working with rural or frontier communities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
(All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.) Clinical Oversight
  • Review, approve, and sign standing vaccine orders for Moffat County Public Health immunization programs.
  • Ensure standing vaccine orders remain consistent with current ACIP recommendations, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment guidance, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Provide medical oversight necessary to support vaccine administration by qualified Public Health staff. Medical Consultation
  • Provide medical consultation, related to Public Health concerns, to Public Health staff on an as-needed basis.
  • Serve as a resource for clinical questions related to immunizations, communicable disease prevention, and other public health agencies.
  • Assist with interpretation of clinical guidance and recommendations from local, state, and federal public health agencies.
  • Provide consultation during communicable disease investigations, outbreaks, or other public health emergencies, as requested. Program Support
  • Participate in periodic meetings with the Public Health Director as needed.
  • Review and provide input on clinical policies, protocols, and procedures when requested.
  • Support quality improvement efforts related to public health services, as needed.
  • Collaborate with community healthcare partners when medical expertise is needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of public health principles and practices.
  • Understanding of vaccine recommendations and immunization best practices.
  • Ability to provide clinical guidance in consultative role.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with Colorado Public Health laws and regulations preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position is performed on an as-needed basis and may be completed remotely. The anticipated commitment is approximately 2-5 hours per month, with occasional time required for review of standing vaccine orders, consultation, or public health emergencies.
COMPENSATION
Compensation will be provided on an hourly basis for time worked and documented. Compensation rate will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and county policy. Moffat County Public Health provides reimbursement for malpractice insurance related to services performed within the scope of employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Primarily remote work.
  • Minimal travel may be required for occasional meetings or public health events.
  • No direct patient care responsibilities.
  • Flexible schedule based on departmental needs.
