EQUESTRIA LIFE

Medical Director & Supervising Equine Veterinarian

Job Description

EQUESTRIA LIFE
Equine Rehabilitation & Wellness Campus Aberdeen, NC Medical Director & Supervising Veterinarian Employment Type Full-time, salaried Reports To Owner / CEO, EQUESTRIA Life Compensation $180,000-$220,000 base DOE, plus production/case-volume bonus and CE allowance The Opportunity
EQUESTRIA
Life is a 35-acre equine rehabilitation and wellness campus in the Sandhills — established horse country with no competing destination-model rehab facility in the region. The property comes fully built out: 28 rehab stalls, an on-site veterinary clinic, reproduction suite, MRI, digital radiography, AquaPacer, saltwater spa, underwater treadmill, and solarium. We're hiring a licensed veterinarian to serve as Medical Director — the clinical and regulatory anchor of the facility.
This is a build-and-run role:
you'll shape the clinical program from day one rather than inherit someone else's protocols. Why This Role Exists The facility's full diagnostic and modality suite — MRI, radiography, laser, PEMF, pulsed shockwave, aquatic therapy — only functions as a clinical program with a veterinarian directing it. In North Carolina, imaging, injections, and most rehab modalities involving diagnosis or treatment planning require veterinary oversight under NCVMB rules, including defined supervising-vet presence standards. This role is licensed independently from the facility's naming/leaseback arrangement with its founding veterinarian — it's a separate, standalone Medical Director hire. Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as supervising/attending veterinarian of record for the facility, meeting NCVMB presence and oversight requirements
  • Direct case intake, diagnostic workup (MRI, radiography, ultrasound), and rehab treatment planning
  • Oversee and prescribe modality use: laser therapy, PEMF, shockwave (ESWT), underwater treadmill, aquatic/saltwater spa protocols
  • Build referral relationships with primary-care equine vets and specialists (surgeons, farriers, chiropractors) in the Sandhills region
  • Establish clinical SOPs, case documentation standards, and safety protocols for a multi-modality facility
  • Supervise vet techs and rehab staff; participate in hiring as the program scales
  • Support case-based content for referring vets and prospective clients (credibility-building, not primary-care marketing) Required Qualifications
  • DVM/VMD, active NC veterinary license (or license-eligible via reciprocity)
  • Meets NCVMB supervising veterinarian requirements
  • Minimum 3-5 years equine clinical practice, with direct experience in at least two of: diagnostic imaging, sports medicine, rehabilitation modalities
  • Comfortable in a referral-based, non-primary-care caseload Preferred Qualifications
  • ACVSMR certification (equine sports medicine & rehabilitation) or actively pursuing it
  • Prior experience standing up or managing a rehab facility or multi-modality clinical program
  • Familiarity with CERP-credentialed practitioner collaboration
  • Business-minded — willing to help shape protocols and pricing as occupancy ramps, not just execute a fixed job description What We Offer
  • Ground-floor clinical leadership of a purpose-built facility with no legacy protocols to unwind
  • Full diagnostic and modality suite already in place — no capital-equipment fights
  • A region with strong horse density and no direct competing destination facility
  • Path to expanded equity/partnership discussion as the practice stabilizes (given the key-person nature of this role)
Pay:
$180,000.00 - $220,000.00 per year
