This brand-new, 16,000 sq ft facility (with planned expansion to 24,000 sq ft) has been thoughtfully designed to support high-quality emergency and specialty care while allowing room for continued growth as the hospital scales up. Position Overview The ER/ICU Manager is a key leader in the daily operations of Points East VSH's Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit. Reporting to the Hospital Administrator, this role is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all ER and ICU activities to ensure smooth workflows, exceptional patient care, and an efficient client experience. The ER/ICU Manager also partners closely with other department leaders to optimize resources, uphold high standards of care, and support the overall success of hospital operations. Relocation assistance may be available.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations:
Oversee daily ER and ICU functions, ensuring smooth patient flow, timely emergency response, and adherence to protocols. Step in as a Veterinary Technician/Assistant when needed.
Team Leadership:
Manage and support ER/ICU staff, including shift leads and assistant managers. Provide training, performance reviews, and mentorship.
Resource Management:
Balance staffing, equipment, and supplies to meet patient needs while controlling costs.
Quality & Safety:
Monitor patient care standards, identify improvement areas, and implement corrective actions.
Collaboration:
Work with other managers, specialists, and support staff to coordinate interdisciplinary care and improve patient experience.
Emergency Coverage:
Serve as a contact for urgent situations, participate in on-call rotations, and ensure 24/7 care continuity.
Compliance:
Maintain regulatory, industry, and hospital policy compliance with proper documentation. Required Skills/Abilities Previous experience in veterinary emergency and critical care settings, with a strong understanding of ER/ICU operations and clinical workflows. Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience in a healthcare or veterinary setting. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, delegate responsibilities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and build cohesive teams. Flexibility to work on-call, holiday, and weekend hours as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree or higher in veterinary science, Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or related field. North Carolina Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Instinct EMR (Practice management system)
Physical Requirements:
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 70 lbs occasionally with assistance. Stand for extended periods of time (up to 10-12 hours). Walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach regularly as part of daily responsibilities. Perform repetitive tasks involving hands and arms (e.g., typing, lifting, restraining, cleaning)
Compensation:
This is a non-exempt (hourly) role, with eligibility for overtime pay and shift differentials. This position will reflect the level of responsibility and expectations it entails and is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and applicable licenses.
