Medical Records Specialist I

Job Description

Medical Records Specialist Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center (HICHC) is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Records Specialist to support the management and maintenance of electronic patient health records. This role is responsible for processing medical record requests, scanning and maintaining patient documentation, coordinating reports and correspondence, and ensuring the accuracy, confidentiality, and timely handling of patient information.
Compensation:
$19.99-$27.85 ( Compensation is based on relevant education, training, and experience. )
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and update electronic patient records. Process requests for medical records and related documentation. Retrieve and distribute lab, radiology, and specialty reports. Support billing, legal, and compliance-related record requests. Communicate professionally with patients, providers, and staff. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and organizational standards. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support patient care teams.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. Minimum one year of medical records experience. One year of clinical office experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills. Proficiency with computers and electronic health records systems preferred.
