Job Description

Position Summary The Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk provides clerical and administrative support to the Health Information Management Department. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate resident medical records through scanning, indexing, filing, organizing, and preparing records for storage. The HIM Clerk ensures all documentation is handled in accordance with HIPAA, New York State Department of Health regulations, and Masonic Care Community policies while supporting efficient access to resident health information. Essential Responsibilities Electronic Medical Record Management Scan resident documents into the electronic medical record (EMR). Accurately attach and index scanned documents within the appropriate resident record. Verify scanned documents for clarity, completeness, and correct placement. Maintain confidentiality of all protected health information (PHI). Medical Record Filing File resident medical records and related documentation in an organized manner. Create new resident medical record folders as needed. Retrieve and re-file medical records upon request. Ensure all filing is accurate and completed in a timely manner. Records Organization Organize and maintain filing shelves for efficient record retrieval. Conduct routine audits of filing areas to ensure records are properly maintained. Identify and correct filing discrepancies. Record Retention & Storage Prepare annual inactive records for archiving. Box medical records according to organizational record retention procedures. Label, inventory, and prepare boxes for off-site or designated storage. Maintain storage logs and documentation. Department Support Assist HIM staff with clerical projects and record management activities. Respond to requests for medical records under departmental procedures. Maintain supplies utilized within the HIM department. Perform other clerical duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required. Experience Previous clerical, administrative, or medical office experience preferred. Experience working with electronic medical records preferred.
Pay:
$20.00 - $23.00 per hour
