Full Job Description SUMMARY :
Back up to the coding manager to cover daily management activities. Performs related duties as required. Under general direction performs training and quality reviews for coding staff to validate charges. Research coder questions for PB charge review. Stay up to date with all yearly changes to ICD-10-CM and CPT changes.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

NOTE:
Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification. 1. Communicates with physicians and health care professionals on an ongoing basis to clarify supportive documentation for code assignment. 2. Monitors governmental and insurance industry information for updates/changes to standard coding practices and procedures, including updating correct code assignments as required. 3. Performs standard supervisory functions, including task assignment, conflict resolution and allocating staff resources. 4. Provides daily supervision of the coding staff, including outsourced vendor coders. 5. Performs quality reviews for coding staff in order to validate code and reimbursement assignments. 6. Assists the Coding Manager and attends professional meetings as needed. 7. Training coding staff as needed. 8. Working with the Patient Access, Patient Financial Services, Revenue Integrity, and Quality departments ensures accuracy, consistency, and efficiency in relation to the visit and code assignment for reimbursement and reporting purposes and conventions. 9. Organize and prioritize all work to ensure that records are coded in timeframes that will assure compliance with regulatory requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Required Education:
Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in business, healthcare, or related field.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's degree in related field
Required Experience:
Five years coding experience within a healthcare environment, including chart audit, professional fee coding, charge capture, or billing experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Professional (CCS-P) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
Preferred Licenses/Certifications:
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
