Position:

This position is located a Fort Riley, Kansas. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This job is open to The public U.S. Citizens, Nationals or those who owe allegiance to the U.S. Duties Establish and maintain custody of service treatment and outpatient medical records according to regulatory guidelines and local policies. Provide information and answers a wide variety of technical questions about medical records without compromising confidentiality of the patients. Retrieve individual medical records from the terminal digit system for scheduled appointments, walk-in patients, and clinic personnel who need records for unscheduled and urgent appointments. Use the Medical Record Tracking function for scanning records to the patients, appropriate clinics or back to the records room for a more effective retrieval system. Receive request for copies of medical records for patients, other Medical Treatment Facilities and insurance companies. Answer phone calls from staff, patients and/or public and greets visitors. Compose and type correspondence including letters of transmittal, requests for medical records, letters furnishing medical information, and other correspondence concerning the disposition of patients and their medical records. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. A Personnel Security Investigation is required. Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Qualifications Who May Apply:

US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing medical records for accuracy; collecting and organizing data for reports; and performing administrative duties associated with patient treatment records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education:

Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience:

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.
