Part-Time Weekend Availability Required About the Position Southern California Medical Center (SCMC) is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Scribe/Finalizer to join our team at our Pico Rivera clinic. This is a part-time position, and weekend availability is required. The Medical Scribe/Finalizer works closely with physicians to accurately document patient encounters and ensure medical records are complete, timely, and compliant. This role plays a critical part in improving provider efficiency and supporting high-quality patient care. Essential Responsibilities Prepare and assemble medical record documentation for physicians. Accompany providers during patient visits to accurately document patient history, review of systems, physical examinations, assessments, treatment plans, and procedures within the electronic medical record (EMR). Update patient histories, physical examination findings, and other pertinent health information. Submit documentation to physicians for review, authentication, and approval. Monitor medical charts to ensure timely completion, including: History and physical exams Review of systems Laboratory and diagnostic results ECGs Progress and procedure notes Diagnoses and treatment plans Discharge documentation and provider signatures Return incomplete charts to physicians for completion as needed. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential medical records. Assist with diagnostic and procedure coding documentation. Communicate normal or abnormal laboratory results to patients as directed by the Clinic Manager. Perform clerical and administrative duties that improve provider productivity and clinic workflow. Assist with training newly hired Finalizers/Medical Scribes as needed. Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission (JCAHO) standards, and all federal, state, and local regulations. Promote a safe, secure, and professional work environment.
Qualifications Required:
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program. Medical Assistant Certificate. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, data entry, and business email. Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, diagnostic procedures, and treatment documentation. Ability to accurately document medical information and expand medical abbreviations appropriately. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying up to 25 pounds.
Preferred:
Associate degree. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Work Environment Fast-paced outpatient medical clinic. Frequent interaction with physicians, patients, clinical staff, insurance companies, and the public. Environmentally controlled medical office setting. Physical Requirements Frequent sitting, typing, writing, speaking, and computer use. Occasional standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds. Why Join SCMC?
