Duties and Responsibilities Because the success of Elim Care depends on the dedication of our employees, we are highly selective in choosing new members of our team. We look to you and the other employees to contribute to the success of Elim Care. The Caregiver/Med Tech is responsible for all duties in relation to safely providing for the residents' care and well-being, as well as duties in relation to safely administering medications and treatments to residents when needed. It requires a responsible demeanor in order for the resident population to have confidence in your ability to provide for their care needs, administration of medications and treatments. It also requires legible, accurate documentation on the medication record and on the resident chart. At times the position will include manager on duty qualifications and a responsibility to act within your scope of practice. It is critical for the Caregiver/Med Tech to call for assistance if he/she is unsure of how to manage a situation.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Maintains the community's philosophy Is knowledgeable of policies and procedures Understands and appropriately documents on the 24-hour communication reports Understands the resident alert status and documents appropriately in the resident's record Understands the resident alert status and what to be aware of where the resident is concerned and reports any changes immediately Is aware of what constitutes a change of condition and reports to Medication Tech/Resident Care Coordinator immediately Understands and implements an interim service plan, in the absence of Resident Care Coordinator, as care needs arise Is aware of the changing needs of the resident based on their service plan, and assures caregivers on shift are aware of changes in interim service plans Assists with all of the care needs a resident might require including, but not limited to, toileting, ambulation, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, escorting, and transferring from place to place Confirms there is adequate staff scheduled on shift and notify Executive Director/Resident Care Coordinator when there are not enough staffscheduled Demonstrates good communication skills Assists residents with transportation and appointments as needed Maintains confidentiality with resident and fellow employee information Uses appropriate phone etiquette Notifies Resident Care Coordinator/Executive Director of resident changes of condition Assists with monthly medication records as needed Assists with cycle filling or re-ordering of medications Understands and returns medications for credit as needed Monitors medications that arrive from the pharmacy Timely notifies the pharmacy of any discrepancies Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the Medication room Maintains the cleanliness , organization and re-stocking ofthe Medication cart Orders supply as directed by the Resident Care Coordinator Assists in the dining room during mealtimes including, but not limited to, setup, taking meal/beverage orders, serving, and bussing tables Assists with activities when required and/or is responsible for getting residents to scheduled activities Is responsible for getting the resident ready and to the lobby for scheduled appointments Maintains the cleanliness of the employee break room Aware of and able to perform assigned housekeeping duties including, but not limited to, dusting, vacuuming, polishing, wiping down handrails, chairs, and tables, picking up newspapers, cleaning bathrooms, restocking toilet paper and paper towels, and mopping Maintains general cleanliness of the resident's apartment (cleans commodes, hi-rise toilet seats) Delivers and restocks residents' incontinent supplies Collects and disposes of trash in designated receptacles Does not disrupt resident belongings when in the apartment unless specifically asked to do so by the resident Reports to maintenance/Executive Director/Resident Care Coordinator regarding any safety issues in the resident's apartment such as frayed cords, broken furniture/equipment, etc. Has knowledge of, and can demonstrate proper technique, or can learn how to assist with a gait belt, sit-to-stand lift, transfer board, oxygen equipment, catheter, specimen, transfer pole, trapeze, wheelchair, scale, and other equipment as directed by the Resident Care Coordinator Capable of taking accurate vital signs and weights Accurately completes an incident report and begins the investigation of the incident Accurately completes a medication error report if necessary Notifies management when an incident or error occurs while on shift Reads the daily shift to shift communication and documents appropriately any duties left for the next shift Adheres to dress code Fills in for the receptionist as directed by Executive Director/Resident Care Coordinator Capable of assisting with the care needs of residents, which might include lifting requirements up to 50 pounds Answers call lights in a timely manner orfinds a coworker to answer, if in the middle of a med pass Maintains responsibility for pagers, keys, and walkies while on duty and signs them in and out every shift Faxes pharmacy to order medications Faxes physician as care needs arise or as instructed by Executive Director/Resident Care Coordinator Calls pharmacy to follow up on medications that have not arrived Notifies physician when pre-authorizations are required or medications not covered by insurance Work as manager on duty as directed by Executive Director/Resident Care Coordinator Keeps current on First Aid/CPR as directed by Resident Care Coordinator Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or any other management staff Read the 24-hour communication book and respond as necessary to issues Review all incident reports and residents on alert status Read any new interim service plans that may have been initiated Assure appropriate amount of staff are available and on shift Replace staff who call off work, when possible Clock in and out accurately Provide the residents with their medications and treatments as per protocol Document issues in the resident record Notify leadership personnel as needed when issues arise Other job duties as assigned by RCC or ED Check schedules for any changes Maintain Medication room supplies Attend and participate in scheduled mandatory in services Attend and participate in other scheduled meetings (Safety, Quality Assurance) Work Environment & Requirements Universal Precautions Exposure to blood/body fluid likely Physical Requirements Must be able to easily lift and carry 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, and/or bend for periods of up to eight hours with breaks as provided for in the employee handbook Other Requirements Has familiarity and willingness to work with elderly population. Previous experience preferred, but not necessary High school graduate preferred Preferred proficiency in English Attends in-services monthly as required for the position Receives and maintains First Aid and CPR certifications Elim Care Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
