Position Summary:

\nAs a Medication Assistant you will assist residents in administering their daily medication.\nRequired Experience for

Medication Aide:

\nHigh School Diploma or GED required.\nPrevious Healthcare, Geriatrics, Caregiving, or experience working with the elderly population preferred.\nAbility to adjust to many types of personalities and situations.\nMust have aptitude for dementia-related situations.\nRealization that incompetence and errors may have serious consequences for residents.\nMust have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm as well as be willing to assist residents based on what cognitive level they are experiencing.\nMust be at least 18 years of age.\nMust have current CPR and First Aid certification.\nMust have CMA certification.\nMust have a TB clearance.\nResponsibilities for

Medication Aide:

\nPrepare and administer medication and treatments as ordered by physician in accordance with policy and procedures.\nVerify identity of resident before administering medication or treatment.\nFollow hand-washing policy for medication passing, universal precautions and infection control.\nOrder mediations, supplies, and equipment as necessary in accordance with established policy.\nRemove expired or discontinued medications for cart and resident apartments as required in accordance with established procedure.\nEnsure medication records are accurate for your shift and keys are always accounted for.\nReview medication sheets for completeness and accuracy.\nReport all discrepancies noted concerning physician's orders, medication count or any other unusual situations and complaints regarding resident services and care to your immediate supervisor.\nChart and perform documentation duties are required in accordance with community policy and procedures.\nAssist in admit, transfer and discharge of residents as requested.\nReview charts for specific treatment, medication, diet orders, etc. as needed.\nNotify nurse in charge of changes in resident condition, (including medication and treatment refusal).\nMake sure work areas (medication and treatment cart, medication room, nurse's station, etc.) are maintained in a clean, sanitary manner.\nAlways show courtesy, respect and positive attitude to residents, family's visitors and associates.\nReport accidents and incidents observed on the shift they occurred. Report suspected abuse immediately.\nDocument important events in the 24-hour report.\nAssist with activities of daily living.\nEncourage the Social development of each resident.\nAssist with light housekeeping including emptying the trash and changing linens.\nEscort residents to and from dining areas for meals; assist with tasks related to dining as needed.\nPerform any duties delegated by supervisor in order to maintain the self-respect, personal dignity and physical safety of each resident while adhering to the standards of Residents Rights and all applicable state, Federal and local licensing requirements and regulations.\n

General Working Conditions:

\nThis position entails standing for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit, stand, walk and use hands to handle keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects. The employee must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and push/pull equipment frequently. The employee is expected to possess good organization skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. The employee must be compassionate and empathetic. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may frequently bend, reach, grasp, and climb. The employee may need to squat and kneel. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
