Job Summary The Certified Medication Technician (CMT) is responsible for safely and accurately assisting with medication administration in accordance with the individual's medication orders, applicable regulations, organizational policies, and the direction of the supervising nurse or other authorized healthcare professional. The CMT supports clients in maintaining medication routines, promotes health and safety, completes required documentation, and promptly communicates medication-related concerns or changes in a client's condition to the appropriate clinical staff. Duties Administer medications as permitted within the scope of the CMT certification and applicable state regulations. Follow medication orders, physician instructions, organizational policies, and established medication administration procedures. Verify the right client, medication, dose, route, time, and documentation before administering medications. Maintain accurate and timely Medication Administration Records (MARs) and other required documentation. Monitor clients for medication effectiveness, adverse reactions, side effects, or changes in condition. Immediately report medication errors, missed doses, adverse reactions, or other medication-related concerns to the supervising nurse or appropriate clinical staff. Safely store, secure, and handle medications in accordance with applicable requirements. Assist with medication counts, inventory, refills, and reconciliation as assigned. Communicate with pharmacies, healthcare providers, nurses, and other members of the treatment team as directed. Support clients in understanding and following their medication routines within the CMT's scope of practice. Maintain client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable privacy requirements. Follow infection-control, health and safety, emergency, and incident-reporting procedures. Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training, and continuing education as required. Maintain professional boundaries and treat all clients with dignity, respect, and compassion. Complete all required documentation accurately and within established timeframes. Perform other duties consistent with the position and assigned by management.
