Job Description

We are seeking a Peer Support Specialist to provide direct support to youth receiving mental health and/or substance use treatment. This role focuses on mentorship, advocacy, and empowerment to help young individuals navigate their recovery journey. Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct support to youth in mental health and/or substance use treatment. Facilitate individual and group therapeutic activities. Serve as a role model by sharing personal experiences of resiliency and recovery. Help youth understand and apply recovery skills to achieve life goals. Support individuals in building confidence, independence, and advocacy skills. Engage with diverse populations in a respectful and inclusive manner. Assist in developing and implementing groups that promote empowerment and life skills. Educate youth on mental health topics and recovery strategies. Work in classroom settings with students from elementary to high school. Teach effective communication, coping skills, and self-help strategies. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Age:
Between 18 and 35 years old.
Lived Experience:
Must have personally received state-funded services related to mental health, substance use, or behavioral health.
Education:
High school diploma or GED.
Certification:
Completion of KFLA training approved by the department.
Advocacy Experience:
Must demonstrate leadership in behavioral health and personal efforts in self-directed leadership development.
Recovery Journey:
Must have a past or current diagnosis of a mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorder and be actively in recovery.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and stress management abilities.
Background Check:
Must pass a criminal history background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
Passion for youth development and empowerment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish boundaries while providing supportive services.
