Position Summary The Behavior Support Specialist serves as a resource within the residential and clinical programs by providing direct coaching, behavioral consultation, and implementation support to residential staff. Working under the supervision of the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the Behavior Support Specialist promotes the consistent implementation of Behavior Support Plans, person-centered practices, and evidence-based behavioral interventions. This position serves as a bridge between clinical recommendations and daily residential care by providing real-time staff support, modeling behavioral strategies, monitoring implementation fidelity, and identifying opportunities to improve resident outcomes through proactive intervention and staff development. The Behavior Support Specialist promotes a culture of collaboration, positive behavior support, trauma-informed care, and continuous learning while helping staff build confidence and competency in supporting residents with behavioral challenges. Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Essential Responsibilities 1. Behavioral Support Assist staff in implementing individualized Behavior Support Plans as written and trained by the BCBA. Model evidence-based behavioral interventions in natural environments. Promote proactive behavioral strategies that reduce escalation and increase resident success. Assist staff in identifying antecedents, environmental variables, and effective replacement behaviors. Provide immediate support following behavioral incidents to reinforce best practices and promote learning. 2. Staff Coaching and Professional Development Provide real-time coaching and mentorship to residential staff during daily programming. Model effective communication, reinforcement strategies, prompting procedures, and behavior support techniques. Support new employee orientation through behavioral skills training and mentorship. Assist the BCBA with competency-based staff training (e.g., antecedent strategies, redirection, de-escalation). Encourage staff confidence through positive feedback and collaborative problem-solving. 3. Implementation Fidelity Observe implementation of Behavior Support Plans and behavioral interventions. Monitor treatment fidelity using established observation tools and checklists. Provide immediate coaching and constructive feedback to staff. Identify barriers to implementation and communicate recommendations to the BCBA. Promote consistency in behavioral practices across residential homes. 4. Resident Support Build positive, therapeutic relationships with residents through respectful and person-centered interactions. Implement individualized skill acquisition goals as written by the BCBA to support residents in communication, self-regulation, and daily living skills (when needed and on case by case basis). Encourage resident choice, autonomy, and independence whenever possible. Promote the use of least restrictive interventions. 5. Crisis Prevention and De-escalation Model proactive behavioral supports that reduce the likelihood of behavioral crises. Assist staff in implementing verbal de-escalation and prevention strategies. Support post-crisis debriefings by reviewing behavioral events and identifying opportunities for learning. Reinforce organizational expectations related to trauma-informed care and crisis prevention. Maintain required certifications in approved crisis prevention programs (CPI; every 2 years). 6. Data Collection and Documentation Collect behavioral and implementation fidelity data as directed by the BCBA. Assist with behavioral observations and environmental assessments. Document staff coaching activities, behavioral consultations, and implementation concerns. Report behavioral trends and significant observations to the BCBA. Maintain timely, accurate, and objective documentation. 7. Interdisciplinary Collaboration Collaborate with residential leadership, nursing, therapists, education staff, and other interdisciplinary team members to support consistent behavioral programming. Participate in meetings as assigned. Communicate behavioral recommendations in a clear, respectful, and supportive manner. Promote effective communication between clinical and residential teams. Collaborate and assist Care Coordinators with community supports for residents transitioning to home setting. 8. Resident Advocacy and Ethical Practice Promote resident dignity, autonomy, and person-centered decision-making. Support trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices. Advocate for evidence-based, least restrictive behavioral interventions. Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Model ethical decision-making consistent with organizational policies and the BACB Ethics Code (found at BACB.com). Minimum Qualifications Strong interest or experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, or residential populations preferred. Valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Behavior Analysis, Social Work, Human Services, Education, or a related field. Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification or equivalent behavioral experience. Experience in residential treatment, behavioral health, or intensive support settings. Experience providing staff training or coaching. Experience collecting and interpreting behavioral data. CPI certification or ability to obtain certification. Resident engagement and participation in behavioral programming. Adherence to ethical, person-centered, and trauma-informed practices. Adheres to all agency policies and procedures as terms of continued employment Completes annual mandated training as prescribed by SCDSS, SCDPH, sexual harassment, and mandated reporter training. Cooperates with HR Dept. collection annual SLED, Central Registry, DMV, state and national sex offender checks. Individuals whose MVR shows involvement in more than two (2) accidents in the last three (3) years in which said individual was at fault, or against whom more than eight (8) current violation points have been assessed, shall be unqualified to transport children. Adheres to CDC and SCDHEC recommendations related to COVID-19 and serious disease outbreaks, i.e. social distancing, use of masks, sanitation. Maintains CPI, CPR, First Aid certification, and professional license, if applicable. All staff involved in the use of seclusion and restraint must use the necessary and appropriate skills, knowledge, and expertise needed to judiciously apply interventions in a safe manner. Mandatory fingerprinting every 5 years, chest x-rays or TB screens, random drug screens as required by state contracts. Must be able to demonstrate the needed gross and fine motor skills and physical strengths, stamina and proper body mechanics needed to execute all procedures needed to carry out their basic job duties and other duties as assigned in order to maintain a safe work environment. Windwood utilizes CPI. At times, CPI techniques require staff members to provide physical contact and therapeutic holds on a child placed in our residential treatment program.

COMPENSATION

this is a full time on-campus 40-hour, five day a week position.

Salary Range:

$30.00 an hour for a professional who does not possess 4-year bachelor degree; but does possess 2 years work experience in residential care, and certification as a trainer in CPI. $31.50 an hour for a professional with 4-year bachelor level degree with 3 years' work experience in residential care and certification as a trainer in CPI. $33.00 an hour for a professional with 4-year master level degree with 4 years' work experience in residential care and certification as a trainer in CPI.
