The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct, non-clinical support to clients in a residential men's Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment program. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic milieu through active client engagement, observation, and enforcement of program expectations. The BHT supports daily operations, client accountability, and continuity of care while working closely with clinical and program leadership. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Milieu Management & Client Support Maintain a safe, structured, and recovery-oriented therapeutic environment. Monitor client behavior, interactions, and adherence to program rules and schedules. Provide consistent supervision and support during daily activities, transitions, and free time. Model appropriate boundaries, professionalism, and recovery-oriented behavior. De-escalate conflicts and behavioral concerns using trauma-informed and non-punitive approaches. Respond promptly to emergencies, safety concerns, or critical incidents. Operational & Program Support Conduct routine checks, headcounts, room inspections, and safety rounds. Support admissions, orientations, and client transitions as assigned. Assist with transportation, activities, and group logistics as needed. Ensure program schedules and routines are followed consistently. Provide coverage during staffing shortages or high-census periods. Documentation & Communication Document observations, incidents, and shift activities accurately and timely. Communicate client concerns, behavioral changes, or safety issues to supervisors and clinical staff. Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and client rights policies. Participate in shift hand-offs and team communication. Medication Observation & Safety Responsibilities Adhere to organizational medication safety and observation protocols as applicable to role and training. Observe and monitor medication observation processes as assigned. Report any discrepancies, concerns, or adverse reactions immediately to appropriate staff and document per policy. Compliance & Professional Conduct Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and code of conduct. Participate in required training, supervision, and staff meetings. Maintain professional boundaries and ethical behavior at all times. Support accreditation, licensing, and quality improvement efforts. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to observe, engage, and support diverse client populations. Strong situational awareness and attention to safety. Effective interpersonal and de-escalation skills. Ability to follow structure, routines, and supervisory direction. Basic computer and documentation skills. Minimum of high school diploma or GED. Must be able to pass Federal and State background check, Child Maltreatment Registry check, and Adult Maltreatment Registry check. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work performed in a residential treatment facility. Requires standing, walking, and active engagement throughout shifts. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies or client crises. May require lifting up to 25 pounds.
