Job Description
Position Summary We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dependable Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to support elementary-aged students with behavioral, emotional, and social needs. The ideal candidate is committed to helping children succeed and can remain calm, positive, and professional in challenging situations. The BHT works collaboratively with teachers, school administrators, special education staff, counselors, clinical professionals, and families to promote positive behavior, emotional well-being, and academic success. This position provides individualized and small-group support within a safe, structured, and supportive school environment. Essential Responsibilities Provide one-on-one and small-group behavioral support to students. Implement students' individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and classroom-based support strategies. Help students develop emotional regulation, coping, communication, and positive social-interaction skills. Reinforce appropriate behavior using positive, evidence-based strategies. Support teachers in maintaining safe, positive, and well-structured classrooms. Observe student behavior, collect data, and accurately document progress and interventions. Identify behavioral triggers and assist students in using appropriate replacement behaviors. Provide crisis prevention and de-escalation support using approved techniques. Participate in student support meetings and communicate relevant observations to appropriate team members. Collaborate professionally with teachers, counselors, administrators, clinical staff, and families. Maintain student confidentiality and comply with school policies and all applicable federal and state requirements. Perform other student-support duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Current Behavioral Health Technician certification or eligibility to meet applicable BHT qualification requirements. Experience working with children, preferably in a school, special education, behavioral health, or therapeutic setting. Strong communication, teamwork, documentation, and problem-solving skills. Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional during challenging situations. Ability to follow behavior plans, accept feedback, and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to complete all required background clearances. Preferred Qualifications Associate's or bachelor's degree in psychology, education, social work, behavioral health, or a related field. Experience supporting elementary-aged students with behavioral, emotional, developmental, or social needs. Knowledge of positive behavioral supports, trauma-informed practices, and social-emotional learning. CPR/First Aid and approved crisis-intervention certification. Candidates without these certifications must be willing to obtain them upon hire.
Pay:
$17.00 - $22.00 per hour
