The role consists of carrying out canine rehabilitation appointments, with some rotation into surgery assisting, surgery preparation, and anesthesia recovery. Our practice focuses primarily on canine and feline veterinary surgery and rehabilitation, with a mission to make high quality surgical care more accessible and affordable for pet owners. Experience in animal handling and general veterinary technical skills are required for this position. However, we are able to teach more advanced surgical and rehabilitation skills to an individual who is motivated and willing to learn. Schedule Full time, in person position Four 10 hour shifts, Monday through Thursday No weekends No major holidays Responsibilities Carrying out canine rehabilitation appointments Observing and recording progress of post-operative rehab patients Cleaning and caring for water treadmill Working on, completing and sending patient charts Using record keeping software and online tools Taking in and preparing patients for surgeries Safely restraining patients and assessing animal behavior Obtaining and running blood samples Obtaining and recording patient vital signs, recognizing abnormal signs Handling, preparing and sending out laboratory samples Preparing and administering fluid therapy Placing IV catheters Intubating and monitoring anesthetized patients Drawing up, filling and administering medications Assisting with surgeries and maintaining sterility Cleaning and wrapping surgical packs Recovering and monitoring post-surgical patients Going over patient discharge with pet owners General telephone and client communication duties Upkeep of the clinic, cleaning and laundry Skills Knowledge of basic veterinary care: vital signs, venipuncture, drug measurements, patient restraint, cleanliness and aseptic technique, restraint, trimming nails, inducing and monitoring anesthesia, surgical preparation and intraoperative assistance Able to lift patients (larger patients are lifted with a partner) Knowledge of veterinary terminology and basic procedures, diagnoses and treatments Comfortable and confident handling dogs and cats of different sizes, temperaments, and medical conditions Compassion and kindness towards pets and owners Attention to detail and accuracy when carrying out treatments and keeping records Resourceful and willing to problem-solve, comfortable asking questions when needed Comfortable with computers and technology, able to use veterinary recording software and online websites and tools Dependable, hardworking, adaptable, and willing to help wherever needed Team player who works and communicates effectively with doctors and support staff Professional in attitude and appearance, receptive to feedback, proactive in implementing it, and able to handle stress and workplace challenges appropriately. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, but not required High school diploma or equivalent required We are looking for someone who takes pride in doing things well, enjoys being part of a small team, and is comfortable working with patients and clients alike.
