Job Description

Category Schools - Music Therapist Job Type Contract Make a positive impact by providing music therapy to children with developmental disabilities and autism in a supportive, nonprofit school-based environment. This part-time, contract position offers the opportunity to engage and inspire a small group of students through the power of music. With a flexible schedule of 3-5 hours per week across the full school year, you'll lead engaging group sessions that foster skill development, communication, and emotional expression for 4-6 children in a classroom setting. Candidates should bring a creative and compassionate approach, with the ability to design and adapt therapy sessions to meet each student's individual needs. Your work will contribute directly to a nurturing learning atmosphere where every child has the chance to reach their potential.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an accredited program Current board certification as a Music Therapist (MT-BC) Prior experience working with children with developmental disabilities and/or autism is strongly preferred Ability to plan and facilitate interactive music therapy sessions for small groups Excellent communication skills, collaborative spirit, and confidence working with diverse learners
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement twice-weekly music therapy sessions for 4-6 students Collaborate with teachers and support staff to individualize therapeutic goals Adapt strategies to address a wide range of communication, sensory, and behavioral needs Maintain session documentation and progress reports aligned with school and nonprofit standards Provide input for multidisciplinary team meetings as needed Enjoy the satisfaction of supporting children's growth while maintaining work-life balance—this is a part-time role with predictable hours.
