Lead Physician / Medical Director Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our growing team at DDNC. In this role, you will work collaboratively with our board-certified gastroenterologists to provide high-quality, comprehensive care to patients experiencing a wide range of gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GI health, internal medicine, or acute care, and a passion for patient education and evidence-based practice.
Key Responsibilities Patient Assessment & Diagnosis:
Conduct comprehensive physical examinations, review detailed medical histories, and evaluate new and established patients presenting with GI symptoms (e.g., reflux, abdominal pain, altered bowel habits).
Care Management:
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions, including GERD, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Celiac disease, and liver diseases.
Diagnostic Interpretation:
Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory panels, imaging studies, and biopsy results from endoscopic procedures.
Treatment Planning:
Prescribe appropriate medications, nutritional therapies, and lifestyle modifications in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Procedural Support:
Provide pre-procedure clearances and post-procedure follow-up care for patients undergoing colonoscopies, upper endoscopies (EGD), and other GI procedures.
Patient Education:
Counsel patients and their families on disease management, dietary modifications, medication adherence, and preventative screening guidelines.
Documentation:
Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Collaboration:
Consult seamlessly with supervising physicians, dietitians, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
Required Qualifications Education:
Master's (MSN) or Doctorate (DNP) degree from an accredited nursing program.
Licensure:
Current and unencumbered state license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) / Nurse Practitioner.
Certification:
National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP/AGACNP).
Preffered Prescriptive Authority:
Active DEA registration and state prescriptive authority.
Life Support:
Current BLS/CPR certification (ACLS preferred).
Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience as an NP. Prior experience in gastroenterology, hepatology, or internal medicine is strongly preferred. Skills & Competencies Strong critical thinking and diagnostic skills. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Empathy, cultural competence, and a strong bedside manner. Proficiency in navigating modern EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks). Ability to thrive in a fast-paced outpatient clinic environment. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Primarily an outpatient clinic setting (standard business hours). Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
