The right candidate will have strong people skills, as well as a sincere compassion for others in need. The candidate must also be capable of handling stressful situations in a cooperative and professional manner, as well as being able to work flexible hours and maintain strict medical confidentiality. Essential Functions Provides patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession. Collaborates with counselors, social workers, or other treatment team members to coordinate care. Provides psychiatric health services, education, counseling, and emotional support. Refers patients for inpatient care, in collaboration with the staff psychiatrist, as necessary. Issues medication prescriptions in accordance with treatment guidelines. Orders laboratory tests, interprets, and explains the test results to patients. Provides patient education regarding medications, risks, benefits, and reasonable outcome expectations. Communicates with patients and engages in follow-up as necessary. Responsible for timely and accurate completion of medical records, including assessment, treatment plan, progress notes, outcome measures, and billing entries. May also provide primary medical care services as indicated, in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession. Must be familiar with the EHR medical charting system Strong written and interpersonal communication skills Infection Control Category This job is designated as a Category I job using OSHA definitions. This means there are tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for any employee engaged in Category I tasks. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. HIPAA Privacy & Confidentiality Requirements The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will have access to confidential information, both written and oral, in the course of his/her employment and job responsibilities. In order to maintain the integrity of Protected Health Information (PHI), this information is not to be disclosed to any unauthorized individuals as outlined in the Policies and Procedures of HRMD. Work Environment This job operates in a professional medical room environment following the standards of the AORN (Association of Operating Room Nurses.) Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and include (but are not limited to): the ability to stand/walk for up to twelve (12) hours per day; bend, stoop, twist; assist patients in turning, rising from recliners and stretchers; assist patients in and out of wheelchairs; push wheelchairs; the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Travel This position may require travel. Educational Requirements MSN or DNP required with a focus on psychiatric nursing required. ( Must be able to provide first day ) Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) and Advance Practice Nurse (APRN-NP) by Texas Board of Nursing required. ( Must be able to provide first day ) Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) required. ( Must be able to provide first day ) Unrestricted DEA license required. ( Must be able to provide first day ) BLS and PALS required. ( Must be able to provide first day ) Qualifications Previous experience as a psychiatric provider providing direct care to patients receiving treatments for psychiatric disorders required. Bilingual (Spanish/ English) preferred. Required to respond to any medical emergency, fast walk or jog may be necessary to provide assistance. Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling. Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging patients exiting the building during an emergency (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling, or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self). Wonderful bedside manner. Excellent communicator who can empathize with patients. Flexible working hours. Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment. Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request. Pass all pertinent required background checks and child abuse and neglect checks. Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
