Position Summary:
The nursing department at Westmont College is supported by a collaborative and cohesive group of professional nurses and staff. The Skills and Simulation Lab Assistant will be responsible for supporting the learning of the students through the day-to-day operations of the skills and simulation lab.
Qualifications:
Current, active LVN license in the state (unencumbered) At least 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in acute care, long-term care, or community health settings BLS certification (Basic Life Support), current and maintained Proficient in basic nursing skills and procedures as taught in pre-licensure nursing programs Familiarity with nursing simulation equipment and supplies, or willingness to be trained Ability to organize lab supplies, set up and take down equipment, and maintain a clean and functional lab space Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, simulation software, inventory systems) Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with students and faculty Commitment to student-centered support and upholding clinical safety standards Demonstrates flexibility and openness to new requests and responsibilities in order to foster an environment of collaboration Experience with creative troubleshooting and finding solutions Self-directed with the ability to meet deadlines Ability to lift 25 pounds Personal affirmation of the Christian mission of Westmont College and the Community Life Statement and adherence to its behavioral expectations
Responsibilities:
Supports the Mission of Westmont College. Lab Preparation and Maintenance Prepare, set up, and clean up equipment, supplies, and manikins for skills practice and simulation sessions. Ensure lab and storage areas are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary materials. Assist with inventory management, including tracking, and restocking of lab supplies. Conduct regular equipment checks and routine maintenance; report malfunctions or needed repairs. Simulation and Skills Support Support faculty during simulation scenarios by helping to operate equipment or role-play standardized patients when needed. Provide hands-on assistance to students during skills practice, offering guidance, correction, and demonstration under faculty supervision. Ensure adherence to clinical and safety protocols in the lab environment. Administrative Assistance Maintain records of student attendance, skill performance checklists, and equipment usage. Assist with scheduling open lab times and simulation sessions. Maintain daily/monthly open skills lab schedule and post to Skills lab bulletin board. Support faculty in developing and assembling materials for lab activities. Complete all college incident forms and worker's compensation documentation in the event there is an injury in the lab, and report incident to Skills lab Coordinator and/or Program Director. Student Interaction and Support Support the learning of students as their first priority. Encourage a positive learning environment, providing respectful, constructive feedback to students. Engage with students in the skills and simulation labs. "Engage" in this context includes a meaningful exchange between the faculty and student/s. Serve as a resource for students who need extra practice or remediation on clinical skills. Provide formative and summative feedback for skills in the lab and clinical setting. Be fair and just in assessing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of students. Promote professional behavior and clinical competency consistent with program values. Program and Team Collaboration Attend team meetings and participate in lab planning and improvement efforts. Assist in special events such as simulation days, skill check-offs, and orientations Other duties as assigned.
