Seeking an outgoing, experienced, part-time, male caregiver to perform CLS services for a 36-year-old man with IDD.
Job site:
In our home in Winder (Barrow County) and on outings in the local community.
Schedule:
Mondays and Wednesdays (10AM to 1PM) OR Tuesdays and Thursdays (10AM to 1PM) in our home, PLUS Fridays (10AM to 1PM) for outings.
Job duties:
Assist client in learning "life skills." These include using his cell phone, cooking, doing chores around the house, practicing fire and other safety drills, improving his social and conversational skills, etc. Also, take client on outings on Fridays for fun and recreation. In-home training/assistance will be provided, as needed, by client's family.
Your client:
A highly verbal, fun-loving young man who is physically able bodied and can perform self-care skills such as dressing, feeding, medication and personal hygiene. He can read, write and handle money. He enjoys walking, Legos, McDonald's, KFC, playing PacMan and Walt Disney characters. He dislikes sudden changes to his routine, scary movies/TV shows and noisy places like Walmart. His goals are to get his own apartment in a community for adults with special needs and to someday visit (maybe work at?) Walt Disney World. He thrives with a familiar routine, clear directions, tasks broken down into steps, and lots of encouragement.
Caregiver qualifications:
Male only, please. (Client needs someone to teach him "man stuff.") At least 2 years' experience working with adults with intellectual developmental delay (IDD) in a care giving, educational or volunteer situation. Must have excellent English and communication skills. No strong accent, please. (Client has an auditory processing problem and does not understand accents.) CPR and first aid training. Must own a reliable car or truck. Must provide copies of current driver's license, proof of insurance and a clean MVR. No smoking, vaping or other tobacco use. (Client is allergic AND our landlord does not allow smoking on the premises.) No perfume or strongly scented grooming products, please. (Client is allergic.) Personal appearance: Neat and well groomed, with hair that does not present a safety hazard while cooking or doing other activities.
Dress code:
Full length khakis, jeans or sweat pants; polo or plain T shirts; closed-toe athletic shoes. Must be physically fit and able to walk up to 3 miles on nature trails with client at our local state park Fort Yargo or similar outdoor venues. If you are available to work the above days and hours AND you meet the other requirements, we want to talk to you!" Please call Autumn at 470-805-1295
