Position Summary The Certified Nursing Assistant provides respectful, hands-on assistance to residents according to each resident's service plan. The CNA supports residents' independence, comfort, dignity, and safety; observes and reports changes in condition; and completes accurate care documentation. The CNA performs only duties for which they have been trained, found competent, and authorized under the facility's policies and applicable Michigan requirements. Essential Duties Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, toileting, incontinence care, and other personal care identified in their service plans. Assist with walking, transfers, positioning, and mobility devices using approved techniques and the level of staff assistance specified in the service plan. Help residents with meals and hydration, including assistance with eating when assigned. Follow documented dietary instructions and report concerns about intake or swallowing. Encourage residents to do as much for themselves as they safely can. Respect their choices, privacy, belongings, and right to refuse care. Observe and promptly report changes in a resident's appearance, behavior, mobility, skin, appetite, or general condition to the designated supervisor. Respond to call lights and requests for assistance. Record care provided and observations accurately and promptly. Give a clear handoff to the next shift and report incidents, injuries, falls, suspected abuse or neglect, and missing residents according to facility procedures. Follow infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, standard precautions, use of protective equipment, and proper handling of soiled items. Keep resident areas safe and orderly. Assist with linens, personal laundry, and light care-related housekeeping as assigned. Participate in emergency response, evacuation drills, and resident safety procedures within the scope of training. Assist with medication-related tasks only when separately trained, found competent, and assigned under the facility's applicable license, medication procedures, and the resident's service plan . Follow prescriber instructions and required documentation procedures. CNA certification alone does not authorize independent nursing judgment or changes to medication orders. Communicate courteously with residents, families, coworkers, and health care professionals while protecting confidential resident information. Complete required orientation, ongoing training, and competency evaluations. Minimum Qualifications Current Michigan nurse aide certification in good standing, verified by the facility. Ability to meet applicable background-check and employee health requirements. Ability to demonstrate competence in the assigned personal care, mobility, safety, documentation, and infection prevention tasks. Effective communication skills and the ability to follow written service plans and report concerns promptly. CPR and first aid training as required by the facility for the assigned role. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, reach, and assist residents with mobility and transfers using required equipment and assistance. The facility will provide reasonable accommodations as required by law. Scope and Accountability The CNA follows the resident's current service plan and the direction of the designated supervisor. The CNA does not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatment, independently change a service plan, or perform a task outside their training and demonstrated competence. The CNA must immediately report any resident need that cannot be safely met under the current plan.
