Job Description

General Summary :
The Certified Nursing Assistant provides comprehensive personal care to patients, under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse and /or a Licensed Practical Nurse.
General Duties and Responsibilities :
Maintains high standard of care; Observes patients every 30 minutes, reporting problematic findings to supervising RN/LPN; Responds to call bells and meets the requests of patients to the best of her/his ability; Does direct patient care as assigned; Assists RN/LPN in rendering care to more fragile patients; Assists in the following services: keeping the patient's room neat, safe, and comfortable; providing nutrition to patients; aiding patients to use toilet, commode or bedpan; keeping the patients comfortable; attending to such cares as nails, facial hair, and other matters of good hygiene. Maintains confidentiality; Accepts direction, supervision, instruction, and evaluation; Maintains a cooperative, pleasant attitude toward all: patients, coworkers, sisters, and visitors; Refrains from discussing staffing and personal problems with or in the presence of patients and visitors; Uses time, materials, and equipment economically and safely; Reports on and off duty to supervising RN/LPN; Attends Orientation, Training, In-Service Programs and Staff Meetings; Knows and adheres to established Personnel Policies, Fire and Disaster Programs. Adheres to Department Policies and Procedures; Carries out other appropriate duties as requested by supervising RN/LPN.
Qualifications:
Education:
Currently certified as a Nursing Assistant in New York State.
Preferred:
classes in Geriatric Care.
Experience:
Six months or more in a hospital or nursing home;
Preferred:
includes Geriatric Experience.
Other:
Clean, neat appearance; pleasant personality; adheres to dress code; Ability to communicate, especially with the elderly and co-workers; Willing to learn; Positive, caring attitude; Practices good personal hygiene.
Physical Requirements:
Evidence of good health; Must be able to lift and transfer patients; Adequate vision; No previous history of back injury; Emotional stability.
Working Conditions:
Busy surroundings; frequent interruptions; much walking.
Job Type:
Full-time Pay:
$21.00 - $22.25 per hour
