Hospitalist - Physician Assistant or Nurse Practionier

Job Description

Description:
A Hospital Medicine (Hospitalist) Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP) provides medical care in the inpatient setting. They are responsible for managing acute and chronic medical issues through a multi-disciplinary approach while patients are hospitalized. The role is fast-paced and demands quick decision-making, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work independently, as well as in a collaborative environment with physicians and other healthcare providers.
Requirements:
Key Responsibilities:
Perform comprehensive history and physical exams on acutely ill adult patients. Manage and coordinate the care of hospitalized patients with a broad spectrum of medical conditions. Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic tests and lab results. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including admission and discharge planning. Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and quality of care. Respond to rapid responses and code situations, depending on level of training and credentialing. Perform common bedside procedures as credentialed (e.g., paracentesis, central lines, thoracentesis, arterial lines). Document all patient encounters and orders in the electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely and accurate manner. Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education and updates throughout the hospital stay.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Strong critical thinking and clinical judgment. Comfortable with managing complex, high-acuity patients independently (with support as needed). Proficient in EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, etc.). Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Schedule & Work Environment:
12 hour shifts, 7 on/7off rotating schedule
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Completion of a Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program or Nurse Practitioner program.
Licensing/Certification:
Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). State licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
Skills:
Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and move around the clinical setting for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, and assist patients as necessary.
Work Environment:
Shift work may be required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the facility's operating hours.
