Responsibilities:

Academic Lead the development of simulation-based learning experiences, including pre-briefing, scenario implementation, and debriefing of simulation cases across the nursing curriculum (e.g., medical-surgical, pediatrics, maternal health, community health) Guide students in developing clinical judgment, communication, and patient safety competencies. Utilize evidence-based debriefing models to promote reflective learning. Assist in clinical skills learning experiences, including demonstrations, validations, and practice sessions. Assess student performance during simulation using standardized tools and rubrics. Collaborate with faculty and the Nursing Academic Committee to design and implement simulation scenarios aligned with course outcomes, program outcomes, and clinical outcomes. Ensure that simulation activities and evaluation criteria are mapped to course outcomes and program outcomes. Recommend and integrate simulation experiences as appropriate to supplement or replace clinical hours per regulatory guidelines. Provide constructive feedback to support student learning and progression. Maintain office hours within the framework of university policies. Ensure that students evaluate simulation experiences and analyze the results with course faculty and the Nursing Academic Committee. Collect, analyze, and report simulation-related student-learning, performance, satisfaction, and program-evaluation data (as requested) to course faculty and the Nursing Academic Committee to support continuous quality improvement. Maintain current simulation documentation, including scenario templates, curricular mapping, equipment and supply needs, along with performance data consistent with program, accreditation, and regulatory requirements Simulation Operations Collaborate with skills/simulation staff and support personnel to ensure proper setup, operation, and maintenance of equipment. Utilize simulation technologies such as high-fidelity mannequins, task trainers, virtual reality, electronic health record systems, and related learning technologies. Assist with the coordination of simulation schedules, room utilization, lab activities, and student groups. Scholarship & Professional Service Participate in program evaluation and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Engage in scholarly activities related to nursing education and simulation. Participate in program committees, accreditation efforts, and institutional service. Serve on committees of the University and the Department of Nursing, as assigned. Maintain membership in professional organizations. Participate in professional organization activities and university faculty activities. Develop professionally through attendance at professional workshops or enrollment in formal education courses. Participate in faculty development related to simulation pedagogy and best practices. Support interprofessional simulation opportunities when applicable. Serve as a professional role model for peers and students. Participate in community activities. Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating an effective public relations program for the Department of Nursing and the University. Maintain collaborative relations with peers and other personnel in the Department of Nursing, personnel in other departments of the university, personnel in affiliating health agencies, and persons in the community. Demonstrate positive values related to academic and professional responsibilities.

Qualifications Required:

A minimum of a master's degree in nursing is required. At least three years of teaching at an institution of higher education or three years of approved experiential credit. Current unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (Alabama or multistate) is required. Certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) (or willingness to obtain within two years of hire). Experience in simulation-based education or clinical teaching. Strong knowledge of accreditation and regulatory standards in nursing education (ACEN and ABN). Experience with high-fidelity simulation and debriefing techniques. Ability to effectively engage students in experiential learning environments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
