Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Med/Surg Nursing Manager to lead our medical-surgical nursing team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical expertise, exceptional leadership abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of patient care within acute and long-term care settings. As the Med/Surg Nursing Manager, you will oversee daily operations, ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, and foster a collaborative environment dedicated to delivering outstanding patient outcomes. This role offers an opportunity to influence nursing practices, improve operational efficiency, and support professional development across the nursing staff. Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership and supervision to nursing staff working in medical-surgical units, ensuring adherence to clinical standards and hospital policies. Oversee patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and medical documentation to maintain high-quality care delivery. Coordinate interdisciplinary collaboration for complex cases involving critical care, ICU, or trauma patients, including Level I and Level II trauma center protocols. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, state healthcare laws, long-term care regulations, and nursing policy standards. Manage staffing schedules, supervise performance evaluations, and facilitate ongoing training in areas such as IV infusion, catheter care, ventilator management, and sterile techniques. Oversee utilization review processes, discharge planning, and case management activities to optimize patient flow and resource utilization. Implement quality improvement initiatives related to infection control, medication administration, ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), and medical records management. Foster a positive team environment by promoting professional growth through mentorship and leadership development programs. Experience Proven managerial experience in a hospital or long-term care facility with a focus on medical-surgical nursing. Extensive clinical background including critical & intensive care (ICU), emergency medicine, telemetry units, or similar acute care settings. Demonstrated proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner; experience with EMR systems is essential. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, diagnostic evaluation techniques, and pharmacology related to adult and geriatric populations. Familiarity with complex procedures such as cardiac catheterization, spinal tap procedures, tube feeding management, and venipuncture. Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (PICU), neonatal ventilators, dementia care (Alzheimer's & memory care), behavioral health cases, and individuals with disabilities. Knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA compliance, long-term care regulations, workers' compensation law, and NCQA standards. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required; additional certifications in ICU or trauma nursing are advantageous.
