Qualifications & Preferred Experience:

Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or eligibility for certification Experience working in educational or school-based settings Strong understanding of the needs of students with visual impairments Excellent communication, organization, and record-keeping abilities Collaborative mindset for working with teachers, staff, families, and paraprofessionals

Key Responsibilities:

Assess students to identify their orientation and mobility needs and create customized instructional plans Provide direct, hands-on instruction in safe travel techniques both indoors and outdoors Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to incorporate mobility goals into students' IEPs Train students in the use of assistive devices and travel aids such as canes or electronic travel tools Offer guidance and support to school staff and families to reinforce student progress and promote independence Maintain clear documentation on student assessments, progress reports, and instructional outcomes Make a positive impact on students' lives by fostering confidence and autonomy.
