Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our healthcare team. This role provides vital support in patient care and clinical operations within an optometry practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and experience with EMR systems. Prior optical experience and familiarity with medical billing, coding, and retail sales are highly desirable. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic clinical environment focused on delivering exceptional patient care. This role also will help at the front desk and optical as needed. We are a small clinic and work closely together. Duties Assist with patient intake processes, including collecting medical histories and verifying insurance information Prepare patients for examinations by performing preliminary tests using aseptic technique and ophthalmic equipment Conduct basic vision tests and assist in refraction procedures under the supervision of the optometrist or ophthalmologist Manage medical records accurately within EMR systems, ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality Educate patients on optical products and assist with retail sales when appropriate Support clinic operations at the front desk, including scheduling appointments and managing patient flow Maintain a clean and sterile environment following aseptic techniques to prevent infection Assist with medical billing, coding, and documentation as needed for insurance processing Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure seamless patient care delivery across pediatrics, general ophthalmology, or specialty clinics Qualifications Prior experience in medical office settings, ophthalmology, or optometry clinics preferred but not required Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinic procedures Knowledge of EMR systems Experience with HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach to diverse patient populations including pediatrics Ability to perform intake assessments, vital signs measurement, and basic ophthalmic testing accurately Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills is advantageous for optical product consultations Familiarity with medical billing, coding, and records management is a plus Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and record keeping This position is integral to providing high-quality eye care services while supporting efficient clinic operations.
