Duties Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with intake procedures to ensure accurate medical histories and current complaints are documented. Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation levels to support comprehensive eye examinations. Prepare ophthalmic diagnostic equipment including A-scan biometry, tonometry devices, and ophthalmic imaging tools for patient assessments. Assist with ophthalmology-specific procedures like eye refraction, visual acuity testing, and administering topical medications under supervision. Operate electronic health records (EHR) systems accurately to document patient encounters while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies. Support the optometry team by maintaining medical records, managing inventory of supplies, and ensuring all medical equipment is properly sterilized using aseptic techniques. Provide excellent patient service by answering questions, explaining procedures clearly, and ensuring a comfortable experience during visits. Skills Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Experience with intake processes, vital signs measurement, and ophthalmic examinations within a medical or optical setting. Knowledge of ophthalmology terminology, anatomy of the eye, and physiology relevant to eye health assessments. Proficiency in operating medical equipment such as A-scan biometers, tonometers for intraocular pressure measurement, and diagnostic imaging devices. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for managing electronic health records efficiently and accurately. Ability to perform direct patient care with compassion while adhering to clinical confidentiality policies. Basic retail sales skills combined with retail math knowledge to assist in optical sales when needed; understanding of optical products is a plus. Experience working with pediatric patients is advantageous for providing specialized care in pediatric ophthalmology settings.
