Ophthalmic Assistant Michiana Ophthalmology and headache South Bend, IN Job Details Part-time | Full-time 9 hours ago Benefits Paid time off Qualifications Customer communication Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Scanning Medical scheduling Attention to detail Medical terminology Full Job Description Ophthalmic Assistant - Part-Time / Full-Time Michiana Ophthalmology and Headache is seeking a motivated, dependable, and professional Ophthalmic Assistant to join our growing practice. We are looking to hire 1-2 team members and are open to part-time and/or full-time availability . We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced medical office and can effectively multitask between clinical and administrative responsibilities . The ideal candidate is organized, personable, detail-oriented, and works well independently as well as part of a team. Position Responsibilities Clinical Duties Perform ophthalmic testing and diagnostic procedures Obtain and document accurate patient histories Assist the physician with patient examinations and procedures Perform visual acuity, IOP, EOM, pupil testing, and other routine ophthalmic testing Perform OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, and other diagnostic testing as needed Prepare patients for examinations and procedures Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record Maintain clinical equipment and exam rooms Assist with minor office procedures as needed Administrative Duties Check patients in and out Answer phones and assist with patient questions Schedule and confirm appointments Verify insurance benefits and eligibility Assist with referrals and prior authorizations Obtain and maintain accurate patient demographic and insurance information Assist with medical billing and coding Review and submit claims as needed Communicate with pharmacies, hospitals, surgery centers, and other healthcare providers Scan, fax, and maintain medical records and documentation Assist with general office duties and maintaining an organized, efficient office Qualifications Previous ophthalmology or medical office experience preferred Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician experience strongly preferred COA certification is a plus, but not required Knowledge of ophthalmic testing and terminology Experience with electronic medical records preferred Basic understanding of medical insurance, billing, and coding preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent attention to detail Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities Professional, dependable, and patient-focused Ability to work effectively in a team environment What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who is willing to help wherever needed and understands that working in a smaller medical practice requires flexibility. You may spend part of your day assisting patients clinically and another part handling phones, scheduling, insurance, billing, or other administrative responsibilities. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, is willing to learn, and is committed to providing excellent patient care and customer service .
