Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometry Clinic Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in medical office procedures, ophthalmic patient care, and clinical support functions. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to exceptional patient experiences by providing efficient front desk operations, assisting with ophthalmic examinations, and ensuring adherence to confidentiality and safety protocols. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent communication skills, technical proficiency with medical equipment, and a passion for delivering outstanding patient service in a fast-paced clinical environment. Duties Greet patients warmly, verify insurance information, and manage patient intake processes efficiently. Assist with collecting vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and other relevant health metrics prior to examinations. Prepare examination rooms by maintaining aseptic techniques and ensuring all ophthalmic diagnostic equipment is properly sterilized and calibrated. Support ophthalmologists during eye refraction tests, tonometry procedures, and other diagnostic assessments using specialized equipment like A-scan biometry and ophthalmic imaging devices. Operate electronic health record (EHR) systems to accurately document patient information, medical history, and examination results while maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Manage inventory of medical supplies and ophthalmic instruments, including contact lenses, eye drops, and diagnostic tools. Provide exceptional patient service by answering questions, explaining procedures clearly, and ensuring comfort throughout the visit. Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments via Epic or similar EHR platforms, processing medical billing, and maintaining accurate medical records in compliance with clinical confidentiality policies. Support pediatric patients during eye examinations by applying specialized techniques suited for children's needs. Skills Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Experience with intake procedures, vital signs collection, and front desk operations within a medical or clinical setting. Proficiency in operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as tonometers, A-scan biometry devices, and other ophthalmology tools. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/Epic) management for accurate documentation of patient data and clinical notes. Understanding of medical terminology related to ophthalmology and physiology to effectively assist during examinations. Ability to perform direct patient care with compassion while adhering to aseptic techniques and clinical safety standards. Knowledge of medical billing processes and retail math for handling payments or insurance claims related to optical services. Excellent communication skills for engaging with diverse patient populations including pediatrics; capable of explaining complex procedures clearly. Experience in optical retail or clinic environments is advantageous for understanding optical products and sales processes. Pay:
$13.00 - $16.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
